SYRACUSE – Wawasee High School senior Jordan Edington has chosen to continue her track and field throwing career with Taylor University.

Edington, who has starred specifically at shot put, just Tuesday finished as the runner-up at the Warsaw Girls Track Sectional in the event and was third in the Northern Lakes Conference meet. Edington was the 2012 NLC and sectional champion in shot put and was named All-NLC as a junior and likely will garner the honor again later this spring.

In the classroom, Edington is ranked in the top 35 of her graduating class and looks to major in biology and pre-med at Taylor. In track, Edington will likely throw shot and discus, and possibly acquire a new interest.

“I really want to try the hammer throw,” grinned Edington at her signing Thursday at WHS. “I even picked up a javelin the other day. I like to try new things, and likely will keep working shot put and discus. It could be a lot of fun.

“It is a close knit college, small, and Christian-based which was important to me,” continued Edington. “They have a pretty good track program. And I will get to see some of my teammates from here in other programs like Jen Slabaugh (at Indiana Wesleyan). That should be a lot of fun.”

Taylor University women’s track coach Ted Bowers is happy to add Edington to his field lineup.

“I’m excited Jordan decided to join with us, and continue her throwing career,” Bowers said. “She has tremendous promise and had a great high school career.”

Edington’s season will continue next Tuesday with an appearance in the Warsaw Girls Track Regional in the shot put.
