The path to postseason glory is set for prep softball squads.
The IHSAA held the draw this morning in Indianapolis for the 29th annual state tournament series.
Sectional play in four classes is slated for the May 20-25. One-game regionals are May 28, with semi states June 1 and the four state championship games June 8 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Warsaw will host its own Class 4-A sectional this year. Defending champion Northridge, which has just one loss this season, is the heavy favorite to repeat. The Raiders, who are currently ranked No. 7 in Class 4-A, lost in the semi-state title game a year ago.
Warsaw, 7-11 on the season, drew the bye in the six-team field. The host Tigers will play NLC foe Concord in a semifinal game. Warsaw lost a 5-1 final at Concord on April 26. The two teams are scheduled to play again on May 13 at Warsaw.
Wawasee, also 7-11, will play in the Class 3-A Lakeland Sectional. The Warriors drew a strong Fairfield team in the opening game of the six-team sectional. Tippecanoe Valley will play NorthWood in the other first-round contest. Host Lakeland, which drew the bye, is the defending champion and faces West Noble.
Wawasee lost a 5-0 final at Fairfield earlier this season.
Whitko will travel to the Class 3-A Norwell Sectional. The Wildcats will face Bellmont in a first-round game. Host Norwell is the defending champion.
Triton will play in the Class 1-A South Central Sectional. The Trojans received a bye and will face NSC foe Culver in a semifinal matchup. Host South Central is the defending champion.
The winners of the even-numbered sectional sites will get to host the one-game regional this year. That means the only area team that could host a regional game would be the winner of the Warsaw Sectional. That champion would host the winner of the South Bend Adams Sectional.
A total of 371 teams statewide are entered in the tournament this year.
