Carl Salesman Jr., 88, Columbia City, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

He was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, Indiana, a son of the late Carl and Fannie J. (Herron) Salesman, Sr. His formative years were spent in Thorncreek Twp., where he attended Thorncreek School.

On May 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Madge I. Beasley. They made their home in Noble County near Big Lake. They later moved to Columbia City, Tri-Lakes, Churubusco, eventually returning to Columbia City, where they lived for 14 years before Madge died Jan. 9, 2018.

He was a long-term teamster truck driver and had owned the Phillips 66 service station at Main and Chicago Streets, Columbia City.

In his younger years, he enjoyed driving race cars at the Warsaw Speedway. Always meticulous in his work, he kept his tools clean and organized and expected those working with him to do the same.

He is survived by a son, Randy L. (Luann) Salesman and a daughter, Peggy J. Salesman, both of Columbia City; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Additionally, he is preceded in death by three sons, Gerald Salesman, David Salesman, and Rex Salesman; a grandson, Jason Christman; a sister, Martha Hively; and two brothers, Jack, and Jim Salesman.

There are no services.

Arrangements were entrusted to Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
