A man on a mo-ped collided with a dog near Claypool Wednesday resulting in the man’s serious injuries.
At 1:36 p.m., emergency responders were called to CR 50 West, just north of Claypool, where Robert L. Hawley, 84, of Warsaw, had been riding his mo-ped when a German shepherd ran into his path.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies located Hawley in the road where he was being attended to by family members. Multi-Township EMS immediately requested Samaritan helicopter to fly the patient due to Hawley’s head injuries.
Kosciusko County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigators said Hawley was northbound on CR 50 West driving his 1964 red Allstate 788 moped/scooter when the dog entered the road directly in his path of travel. Hawley was unable to avoid hitting the German shepherd and was thrown from the moped onto the road.
Hawley is in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, and reportedly still in serious condition today.
