Donna Rae Mellott

Donna Rae Mellott, 84, of rural Etna Green, Indiana passed away 12:54 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 surrounded by her family at her residence.

Mellot was born on Nov. 26, 1935 in Warsaw, Indiana to the late Chester and Hildreth A. (Blackford) Coplen.  She married on Feb. 6, 1959 in rural Etna Green, Ind. to John A. Mellott, he survives.

She had worked several years at Cooper’s Dime Store and then Haskons Manufacturing. She had also worked for Manwaring Farms in the hatchery.

She was a 1953 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church of Etna Green. She enjoyed spending time gardening, canning, cooking, and sewing. She was fond of tending to her birds and had up to 100 hummingbirds around the house. She loved to take care of her grandchildren and make them macaroni and cheese. Donna was known as the family bingo caller for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She is survived by husband, John A. Mellott, Etna Green, Ind.; daughter, Tamara and husband Phill Newsome, Mentone; son, Kevin and wife Tina Mellott, Goshen; grandchildren, Joshua, Laura, Nicholas, Hannah and Claudia; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents – Chester and Hildreth Coplen; Sister and Brother-in-law – Velma M. and Victor Lantz

The funeral service will be at 10:30 am, Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 at King Memorial Home, 101 North Tucker Street, Mentone, with Elder Michael Pitney officiating.

The interment will follow the service in the Harrison Center Cemetery (Wooden), Etna Green, Indiana

Visitation hours will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 at King Memorial Home, Mentone.

Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Kindred Hospice or the Pilgrims Primitive Baptist Church.
