Betty Lou Miller, 79, of rural Akron, Ind., passed at 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester, Ind.
She was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Kosciusko County, Ind., to O.C. and Dora (Craft) Howard. She attended Rochester High School. On Oct. 19, 1950, in Rochester, she was married to Dale L. ‘Butch’ Miller. He preceded her in death.
Betty was a homemaker and a teacher at the Akron United Methodist Church Preschool. She also volunteered with the Akron Head Start. Betty was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church where she was in charge of the nursery for many years. She loved working with and caring for children. Betty was an amazing seamstress as well as a farmer’s wife that could handle almost any chore.
She is survived by three daughters: Brenda G. Miller, Akron; Sherri L. (Jeff) Secrist, Rochester; Lori M. (Steven) Stiffler, Akron; a son: Brandon H. (Deb) Miller, Akron; nine grandchildren: Scott, Ryan (Kayla), Kevan and Kyle Secrist; Jenny, Jessica and Jaclyn Stiffler; Allison and Greg Miller; two sisters: Thelma (James) Rudd, Rochester; Eileen (John) Davis, Rochester; and three brothers: Carl Howard, Macy, Ind.; Paul (Phyllis) Howard, Rochester; Harold Howard, Rochester.
she was preceded in death by her husband; a sister: Finettie Rudd; and a brother: Junior Bailey.
Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, Ind. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the funeral home. Services will be officiated by Reverend Michael McFarland.
