Triton Nets Seventh Place

imagesWATERLOO – The Triton girls tennis team put up a very competitive showing Saturday in the DeKalb Invitational.
The Trojans lost tiebreakers at three positions in the first round and went on to place seventh in the eight-team tournament.

The No. 1 doubles team of Marissa Ross and Holly Stogsdill led Triton with a fourth place finish. The team defeated Fort Wayne Snider 6-2, 7-6 (6), before losing to NorthWood 6-2, 6-0 and to Bellmont 6-4, 7-5, 10-6.
Kaelyn Mason finished in sixth place at No. 1 singles for the Trojans. She went 1-2 on the day, losing to NorthWood and DeKalb and beating Jay County.
Carrie Slabaugh went 0-2 at No. 2 singles with losses to Dwenger and Snider and Michal Scherer-Berry was 0-2 at No. 3 singles for the Trojans with losses to Jay County and Snider.
Cassie Irons and Shayla May finished 0-2 at No. 2 doubles with losses to Westview and DeKalb.
Fort Wayne Dwenger won the team title with 39 points. NorthWood was second with 27, followed by Bellmont (23), Westview (15), Fort Wayne Snider (9), DeKalb (8), Triton (4) and Jay County (3).
