Whitko-Icon-130x130PONETO – The Whitko baseball team was in an offensive mood Saturday at Southern Wells.

In a good way of course.

The Wildcats piled up 24 hits in sweeping the hosts 13-3 and 15-4 in a prep twin bill.

Hunter Sroufe went 3-3 at the dish with a homer as Whitko won the opener 13-3 in five innings. Sroufe also scored four runs, drove in a pair and stole two bases.

Ethan Nicodemus slugged a grand slam homer in a six-run second inning for the Wildcats. Alex Stoddard was 2-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.

Wyatt Wolf allowed just three hits and one earned run to notch the pitching win in the opener.

Stoddard smacked three doubles and Sroufe had three hits and three RBI as Whitko rolled 15-4 in six innings in the nightcap.

Winning pitcher Zach Snep had two hits and scored three runs and Nicodemus had two more hits and two runs scored.

“We hit the ball very well today,” said Whitko coach Erik Hisner.  “Hunter Sroufe (6-8 with a HR and 5 RBI) and Alex Stoddard (5-9 with 4 doubles and 3 RBI) each had outstanding days at the plate.  Josh Kessie gave us a lot of quality at-bats and drove in four runs.  And Ethan Nicodemus had a big grand slam in the first game to extend our lead from four to eight.”
“And not to be forgotten are the starts that Wyatt Wolf and Zach Snep gave us today.  Both pitchers threw well and did a great job of pitching with a lead.”
Whitko, now 11-4, plays at Tippecanoe Valley Monday at 5:15 p.m.
