
Walter E. “Walt” Miller, 96, Syracuse, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at his home. He was born on Sept. 10, 1923, in Shipshewana, to Earl and Ruby (Stahl) Miller.
He graduated from Shipshewana High School and was a United States Army veteran. He was married on July 5, 1947, in Milford, to Opal E. Dausman who survives. He grew up in Shipshewana and lived in Elkhart for 8 years before moving to Syracuse where he lived most of his life. He retired from Schult Homes in Middlebury after 40 years as a Supervisor Production Manager and formerly worked at Klink’s Super Market in Syracuse.
He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse and Eagles Lodge in Syracuse. After retirement he enjoyed spending time at Big Sand Lake in Cumberland, WI, spending time with his granddaughters, and playing cards at the Syracuse Community Center.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Miller, Syracuse; daughter, Jan (Tony) Seneca, S.C.; son, Jeff (Marie) Miller, Syracuse; two grandchildren: Madison and Sydney Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Ruth Hooley, Helen Mishler, and Treva Richer, and two brothers: Harold Lloyd Miller.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec 9, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Dec. 10, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 801 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with Pastor David Henry officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
