AWL surveillance1The poodle stolen from the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County was returned to the shelter this afternoon claiming it was a misunderstanding.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was called to investigate the theft of a puppy that was stolen from an outside kennel of the AWL on Wednesday.

Security video from the AWL clearly shows the man and woman who took the puppy without authorization.

The AWL reports that the 6-month-old female black poodle mix was at the shelter, but its owner was on her way to pick up the dog when the theft happened. “We were cleaning inside and had put the dog in a nice run outside for a few moments,” noted the AWL’s Facebook page.

The AWL said it would not prosecute if the people returned the dog immediately. The KCSD told StaceyPageOnline.com Thursday afternoon that a woman brought the poodle back saying she thought the dog had been abandoned.
