WARSAW — A South Bend man was recently arrested for alleged theft from the Meijer in Warsaw.
Corey Raymone Henderson, 38, 3920 Rocksverry Drive, South Bend, was arrested on a warrant from Kosciusko County Superior/Circuit Court in connection with the alleged theft of clothing from Meijer in Warsaw in late 2018. Henderson also faces a charge of possession of a synthetic drug or look-a-like substance in Elkhart County.

On Dec. 28, 2018, an Indiana State Police officer in Elkhart County conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on an unnamed road without activated headlights. Henderson was driving the vehicle accompanied by Christina Szymanowski, 40, 700 Berkley St., Lot 330, Plymouth, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Szymanowski was previously booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on theft and counterfeiting charges in connection with this traffic stop on Dec. 29, 2018.
During the traffic stop, the officer smelled an odor similar to marijuana. The officer also saw a green leafy substance in Henderson’s lap along with $150 on the dashboard. Henderson and his passenger exited the vehicle and were separated at the officer’s request.
The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and found synthetic marijuana in addition to multiple clothing items that were later determined to have been stolen from the Meijer in Warsaw valued at $949.87.
Henderson was booked in the Elkhart County Jail on the possession of a synthetic drug or look-alike-substance.
Szymanowski was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail where she provided officers with information on the stolen clothing items and $300 in counterfeit bills from her purse in addition to the $150 mentioned previously, also counterfeit.
The stolen merchandise was returned to the Meijer in Warsaw on Dec. 29, 2018.
Kosciusko County Superior/Circuit Court issued a warrant for Henderson’s arrest in connection with the theft on Jan. 17.
On Nov. 8, Henderson was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail with a bond of $5,250 surety and cash.
