Dorothy Sahagun, 88, of Bourbon, Ind., and formerly of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, in Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth, Ind.

On Jan. 28, 1925, she was born to Oscar and Anna (Weishalla) Haavig in Staples, Minn. She was united in marriage to Mario Sahagun on June 21, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1996.

She lived in Chicago until moving to Sidney, then to Warsaw. Dorothy eventually moved to Bourbon in 1993.

Dorothy was formerly employed by the city of Warsaw as secretary of Oakwood Cemetery and was also a secretary for Warsaw Parks Department at Pike Lake Campground.

She graduated from Hyde Park High School, Chicago, in 1943. Dorothy was a member in various organizations including Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Lakeland Art Association, Red Hat Society of Bourbon, several home economics clubs, Sacred Heart Rosary Altar Society, St. Dominic’s Rosary Altar Society and was on the board of directors at Baker’s Boys and Girls Club. Dorothy was also a member at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Bremen.

Dorothy loved square dancing, painting, camping, sewing and reading. She loved being involved in all her children’s activities, especially attending her grandchildren’s programs and coffee with her friends and neighbors. Dorothy was very involved with her daughter Barbara and her group home and activities.

Dorothy is survived by four children: Marion “Maca” D. Ebersole, Bremen, Ind.; Nancy A. (Carlos) Saladino, Chicago, Ill.; Kenneth M. (Terrie) Sahagun, Syracuse, Ind.; and Teresa “Teri” E. (Jim) Gill, Warsaw; 13 grandchildren: John, Kris, Curt, Anna, Matt, Michael, Christopher, Nicholas, Joseph, Christopher, Teryn, Tasha and Hadley; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Robert (Irene) Haavig, Orland Park, Ill.; and William (Carol) Haavig, Lansing, Ill.; and one sister: Lillian Haavig, Palos Park, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter: Barbara Sahagun; a son-in-law: Bill Ebersole; and brothers: Tom and Ed Haavig.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Christian Burial Service will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Father Bob Lengerich officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
