WARSAW — The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club is happy to sponsor the 20th running of the Warsaw Triathlon, set to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, in Winona Lake Park.

The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is part of the Mideast Triathlon Club Race series. Mideast Club members will be able to earn points for their club at the Optimist Triathlon.

The Optimist Triathlon has been selected as host of the 2013 “Best of the US” Indiana State Qualifier. The fastest male and female resident amateurs will receive invitations to represent Indiana at the “Best of the US National Championship” held in late summer 2013. Only age group participants are eligible.

USAT age division assignments will be determined by age as of Dec. 31 of the event year, not by age on race day. Minimum age for entry is 15 before Dec. 31, 2013. This applies to a solo triathlete or as a member of a team. Age divisions start at 15 years old and go as high as 85-plus.

Swimming will go an eighth of a mile out into Winona Lake, around a marker, and back into the beach. Biking is 13.8 miles and includes a few hills on the journey to Pierceton and back. Bike helmets are required and must be ANSI approved. The run is 3.7 miles with a couple hills along the Greenway Trail.

Registration information can be had through the Warsaw Breakfast Optimists, notably race coordinator Ron Donkers, who can be reached at [email protected] or (574) 265-5699. Race information can also be found online at warsawoptimist.org.
