An Elkhart man has been charged with murder following a shooting at the Deer Creeke Apartments in Elkhart overnight.

At approximately 1:29 a.m. this morning, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a shooting that had taken place in apartment 1517 of the Deer Creeke Apartments, 2801 Toledo Rd.

Upon officers arrival, it was found that two males inside of the apartment had been engaged in an argument, which resulted in Matthew Bark, 24, being shot. Bark was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital and later died as a result of these injuries.

ECSD detectives continued with the investigation and identified the second male subject involved in the altercation as Terry L. Sheets Jr., 26, of Elkhart. Sheets was arrested for murder and is currently being held at the Elkhart County Correctional facility.
