Onyx Volleyball Team Earns Title

The Outland 18 Onyx volleyball team based out of Warsaw turned in an impressive showing in the recent 2013 JVA World Championships.

The team got off to a slow start before going undefeated in the final two days of the tournament held in Louisville April 12-14. The squad lost its first two matches of the tournament before winning its next seven.

The Onyx squad, comprised of area high school players from schools including Warsaw and Wawasee, won the Diamond bracket championship in the 18 Club Division. The team placed 33rd overall in the World Championships.

Members of the championship team included Chloe Hubner, Jamie Lacheta, Katie Voelz, Emily Poe and Chandler Stevens all of Warsaw, Lydia Katsaropoulos of Wawasee, Laura Craig of Northridge  and Arie Kennedy of Northfield.

The championship Onyx squad was coached by Mike Alejado.
