
Phillip B. Strieby, 89, Milford, passed away at 9:44 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at the Goshen Hospital in Goshen. He was born on July 11, 1930, in Kansas where he was adopted by Robert N. & Lera L. (Ott) Strieby.
He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1948 and received an associate’s degree from Fort Wayne Business College in Fort Wayne. He enlisted in the USAF in 1951 where he served in Okinawa as military police. He was married on Jan. 27, 1952, to Shirley Lee Case who preceded him in 1998 and on Nov. 11, 1998, he married Sharon Zipay who preceded him in 2005. He retired in 1975 as the secretary of Hoosier Insurance & Farmers Mutual Aid Association and formerly owned and operated Ye Olde Tackle Box in North Webster, IN for 18 years. He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident.
He was a member of the Lakeland Kiwanis and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse for 77 years.
He is survived by his daughter: Lori (Greg) Barsoda, Syracuse; eight grandchildren: Adam (Heather) Strieby, Wendy Brennan, Greta (Bradley) Wirey, Krista Nave, Kendra (Michael) Henthorn, Aubrey (Andy) Bouck, Robert (Marita) Barsoda, and Becca Barsoda; step-grandson, Jason Barsoda
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife: Shirley Strieby, 2nd wife: Sharon Strieby, and two sons: Kenneth Strieby and Robert Strieby
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
