WARSAW — Due to illness, four-time Boston and New York City marathon winner Bill Rodgers will be unable to attend tomorrow’s convocation and ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly constructed activity center.

Instead, Rodgers’ presentation to students and the mile-run to the activity center will take place next Wednesday, Oct. 16. All grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony arrangements will continue as planned tomorrow, Oct. 9.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, Rodgers will share with all WCS fifth-grade students about his history as a marathon record holder while inspiring students to run toward dreams of their own.

An American runner and former American record holder in the marathon, Rodgers is best known for his victories in the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon in the late 1970s. He won both races four times each between 1975 and 1980, twice breaking the American record at Boston with a time of 2:05:55 in 1975 and a 2:09:27 in 1979. In 1977, Rodgers won the Fukuoka Marathon, making him the only runner ever to hold the championship of all three major marathons at the same time. He made the 1976 U.S. Olympic team and raced the marathon at the Montreal Olympics in 1976, finishing 40th.

Rodgers’ presentation will conclude with a mile run alongside all attending fifth-grade students to the newly constructed activity. Any prior scheduled student activities, such as flu shots, will be arranged to ensure students are able to attend the convocation without conflict.
