John Schutz, 86, of Bremen, Ind., passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013, in South Bend, Ind.

He was born April 24, 1927, in Bremen, Ind., to John F. and Florence (Zieger) Schutz. John was a lifelong resident of Bremen. He was drafted out of high school and proudly served his country during World War II and was in the motor pool. On June 22, 1948, John married Marjorie Name in St. Dominic Catholic Church, Bremen.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pool and working on cars. He especially enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren who found his advice to be helpful. John was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Bremen.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years; three daughters: Mary Sue (Terry) Newcomer, Nappanee, Ind.; Barbara Ann (Bill) Lewis, Bremen; Christina Kay (Donald) Pearish, Bremen; eight grandchildren: Tracy Richard, Bremen; Scott (Becky) Newcomer, Nappanee; Robert (Stephanie) Richard, Bremen; Angie (Cory) Sinkovics, Bremen; Linda (Matt) Massengill, Bremen; Lori (Heath) Hawkins, Bremen; Bradley (Jamie) Newcomer, Nappanee; Brandon (Jenna) Pearish, South Bend; 22 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three brothers: Lawrence (Joan) Schutz; Francis (Mary) Schutz; and Bernard (Joyce) Schutz.

John was preceded in death by a grandson: Todd Newcomer; and a sister: Rose Marie Detweiler.

Visitation took place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Mishler Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Bremen, and was officiated by Father Bob Lengerich. Burial followed at the Bremen Cemetery.
