SYRACUSE — Rain mixed with sleet and snow, along with chilly 40 degree weather, put a slight damper on Earth Day events at Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation today, Saturday, April 27. But those who did venture out and dressed for the weather enjoyed the outdoor activities and displays.

Visitors to the event were greeted by WACF members who handed out cloth bags and provided information concerning saving native bees along with getting a bee sticker and bee name tag, information on WACF and the handbook of Indiana boating laws and responsibilities. Each guest also received ecological drinking straws.

Displays were kept in the area of the Ruddell Pavilion providing a horseshoe of tents. Guests could travel from one tent to the other and learn about soils, recycling, and the Lilly Lakes and Streams, duck and goose calls, take a nature trail walk, plant a tree on the WAC property, sign the watershed map, grab a pre-made seed ball, make a butterfly net to take home, try their hand at archery shooting, or take a look at various fishing flys. Guests could even take a look at muzzle loaders and watch arrowheads being made.

For those with imagination, they could choose to be one of four birds that migrate and play a fun game migrating back to the area. Visitors could also learn about or try their hand at geo cacheing. Plus many more displays.
