Warsaw Community High School will be raising funds this week for a good cause.
The week, titled “Riley Week,” will feature a series of special events which will conclude in a dance marathon geared toward raising funds for Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Spearheading the efforts are WCHS Student Body President Janet Sanchez, and Junior Class President Cody Shafer.
The Riley Dance Marathon will take place from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Warsaw Community High School and will feature a variety of activities for students to partake in while helping give back. According to Sanchez, the dance will include games organized by each club, club activities and even a community service project.
Students who choose to do the community service project will be able to create tie blankets for children being released from Riley’s. According to Shafer, the blankets are meant to act as welcome home gifts for released children.
In addition to the service project, students will also be offered access to an obstacle course hosted by the WCHS Ranger Club. That will take place on the school’s baseball field. Shafer states that the idea behind the course is to allow students to stand for kids who are not able to on their own.
The evening will conclude with a series of guest speakers who have been personally affected by Riley Children’s Hospital.
