NORTHWOOD 4, FAIRFIELD 1

Quality play at all three of its singles courts afforded NorthWood a 4-1 win over Fairfield Tuesday in the Panthers’ return to the courts in Nappanee after its Spring Break hiatis.

Reegan Miller led the way at No. 1 with a love and two showing over Madison Cole and Alex Jesse continued the roll with a four and one win over Kylie Miller. Gretchen Adams wrapped up the singles domination with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory against Riley Miller at No. 3.

In the longest match of the night, Caroline Mullet and Kate Stillson made their varsity debut together at No. 2 doubles and won it in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 banger against Faith Adam and Faith Bontrager.

The Falcons had one win and it came at No. 1 doubles, where Madeline Gawthrop and Kaylie Gaby in a two and three winner over Riley Graber and Paige Henschen.

Fairfield had more doubles success in the JV courts, winning five of the six pairings. NorthWood, on the other hand, won three of the four JV singles courts. Abigail Vorhis, Jessica Kramp and Leslie Olvera all had singles wins for NorthWood as did Ashlyn Feller and Abigail Richner in Panther doubles.

NorthWood (2-0) will open Northern Lakes Conference play Friday with a huge early contest at Concord.

WAWASEE 3, WESTVIEW 2

Wawasee opened its season in preferred fashion, on the winning side in Emma.

Wawasee had to rally to get its victory, seeing Peyton Rookstool at No. 2 singles rally from a 6-0 first set loss to Madison Kresse to close out at 6-0 and 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Elizabeth Kloepfer also had to rally from a set down, 6-2, to Kelby Christner but went 6-2 and then 7-6 in a tiebreaker to clinch the team win.

At No. 1 doubles, Molly Jones and Kaitlin Graber also needed three sets, going 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to keep the rally theme going over Alexis Roth and Nicole Miller.

“One of the gutsiest, come-from-behind matches I’ve ever been a part of,” said Wawasee head coach Shane Staley. “I’m so proud of the entire team for their fight and mental toughness.”

Lauren Reigsecker continued her strong play at No. 1 singles in a love and one win over Kendra Doerr and at No. 2 doubles, Jensen Reynolds and Lillian Eash put away Abby Morehead and Tate Cowan four and four.

The Wawasee JV also found success over its nickname twins, winning four of five junior courts. Valerie Haessig, Kaitlyn Jackson and Kelsey Harper all won singles courts while Ava Harker and Becca Smith won a double court to highlight the undercard.

Wawasee (1-0) returns to work Thursday in its NLC opener at Goshen.
