Evelyn Marie Myers, 84, a resident of Greencroft in Goshen, Ind., and formerly of South Whitley, Ind., passed away at 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013.

Evelyn was born July 18, 1928, in Wabash County, Ind., to Noah and Iva Bolinger. She attended school at South Whitley High School, where she played the clarinet in the band, and graduated in 1946. On Aug. 4, 1946, she married Frederick ‘Fritz’ Myers in South Whitley. They celebrated their 66th anniversary in 2012.

Evelyn attended the Collamer Christian Church in South Whitley. For many years, she and Fritz lived on a dairy farm south of town, where she enjoyed gardening. Evelyn worked at Heckman Bindery in North Manchester, Ind., for 42 years, refurbishing Bibles along with notable and historical books from the Library of Congress.

Evelyn loved music, especially Southern gospel. She loved singing and performing with the Whitley Choralaires and also sang for 5 years with the barbershop quartet, “The Feminotes,” that performed in schools, churches, Indianapolis and on television. She and Fritz also enjoyed attending all-night gospel sings. She loved fishing, crocheting and needlework. Evelyn cherished spending time with her family, which included traveling with her grandchildren when they were young.

She is survived by two daughters: Shirley (George) Dyer, Elkhart, Ind.; Patty (Garry) Thompson, Elkhart; grandchildren: Shane (Kari) Dyer, Elkhart; Jenny (Doug) McGee, Beijing, China; Ryan Thompson, Denver, Colo.; Corrine Thompson (Simeon Hoover), Elkhart; great-grandchildren: Breya Wilken, Elkhart; Karisa Dyer, Elkhart; and Eli, Enoch and Eva McGee, Beijing.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Floyd Bolinger.

The visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 20 at the funeral home with Pastor David Wagner officiating. The burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery.
