Harold W. Gearhart, 91, Hoosier Village Retirement Center Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Akron, Ind., passed away at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Wabash County, Ind., to Frank and Edna (McPeak) Gearhart. Harold was a Laketon High School graduate. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1942-1945. He was a lifetime member of the 3rd Marine Division Association. On Aug. 24, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was married to Bonnie M. Moyer. She survives.

Harold worked for the Erie Railroad for 20 years. He owned and operated the Akron Supermarket from 1962 to 1976. From 1976 to 1988 he was a real estate broker. He had been a member of the Akron United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; a son: Jeffrey (Sharon) Gearhart, Indianapolis; granddaughter: Lindsay (Evan) Childers, Portland, Ore.; granddaughter: Lindsay (Evan) Childers, Portland; four sisters: Dorothy (Ogden) Alger, North Manchester, Ind.; Ruth (Charles) Miller, North Manchester; Sharon Meenen, Macy, Ind.; Joan (Tom) Harris, Fulton, Ind.; four brothers: William Gearhart (companion Sue), Athens, Ind; Dick (Helen) Gearhart, Winamac, Ind.; Roger (Janet) Gearhart, Akron; Larry (Donna) Gearhart, Fulton.

He was preceded in death by two infant twin sisters; one infant child; one sister: Opal Gearhart; five brothers: Leo, Leonard, Floyd, Max, Donald and Ray Gearhart

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday June 21, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Funeral services will be from 10:30 a.m., Friday June 21, at the funeral home. Pastor Butch Troke will officiate. Burial will take place in Akron Cemetery.
