DEARBORN COUNTY — As many as 13 people are reported hurt in a crash involving a school bus and a Rumpke truck in southeastern Indiana on Wednesday morning, dispatchers said.
Air Care confirmed they were asked to fly to the scene in the 8400 block of State Road 350 and Old State Route 350 but cannot due to snow showers in the area.
Rumpke spokeswoman Molly Yeager Broadwater confirmed that a school bus struck a Rumpke residential truck in Aurora, Indiana, shortly after 8 a.m.
“Our driver was out of the truck at the time of the incident servicing customers; however, sustained injuries from debris,” she said.
The Indiana State Police Department as well as the Dearborn County Sherriff’s office are currently investigating, Broadwater said.
“We are unsure of the number of injuries on the bus, or the extent. Our thoughts are with all those individuals involved,” she said.
On Twitter, Indiana State Patrol Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
“Some of the students did sustain injuries and were transported for treatment,” according to his tweet.
The school bus is from the South Dearborn Community School Corporation. A statement from school officials is expected soon.
