GRANGER — An 11-year-old Granger boy has been charged with shooting his father who is a trooper with the Indiana State Police.

The shooting happened at around 11 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at a home on Conover Drive. Trooper Matt Makowski suffered one gunshot wound to his lower body and underwent surgery. We reported on Feb. 25 Makowski’s condition was improving.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor filed a petition alleging delinquency on March 1. This is equivalent to filing criminal charges against an adult.

Several parents talked to us about the 11-year-old in the days following the shooting. They described the fifth grader as aggressive, violent and even manipulative. St. Joseph County police told us they’ve responded to two 911 calls involving the boy.

Makowski’s son has a hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
