SOUTH BEND —  Will Smith, a candidate for mayor in South Bend, has been arrested on a felony theft charge.

As we told you Feb. 28, police said Smith may be connected to a stolen camper in Miami. He is also accused of stealing his own SUV from an impound lot last month in Knox.

Smith painted a different picture in a statement he sent to NewsCenter 16 last week.

He contends a repossession agent threatened him with a gun when the vehicle wasn’t even on his property. Smith also said police threatened to arrest him for trespassing on his own property.
