image004Warsaw students will have the opportunity to attend Science Central’s award-winning summer camps this year, right in their own back yard. The regional science center will present three weeks of camps during July, for children ages 5-11. The camps will be held at Edgewood Middle School.

“We’re very excited to bring our popular summer camps to Warsaw,” said Science Central Executive Director Martin Fisher. “Having a future workforce proficient in science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.) is extremely important to the Warsaw community, and as a regional S.T.E.M. education resource, we’ve been working with Warsaw schools for many years. This is a natural progression of our ongoing work with Warsaw Community Schools, and we hope Warsaw kids will be excited to spend a week in camp with our educators.”

Registration for the camps is available through the Warsaw Community Schools Summer Enrichment Program. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for camp participants, and transportation is available. Cost per camper is $100 per camp session, and camp hours are 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily.

Camp sessions being offered are:

Young Engineer, July 8-12, Ages 5-8
Leonardo DaVinci never had this much fun! If you love building, join us as we construct bridges and buildings with a variety of materials. Experiment with the physics of strength, structure and geometry to learn why certain shapes are so strong. Become a skilled builder!

Bones, Body & Biology, July 15-19, Ages 5-11
Explore human anatomy and biology through animal dissections and explorations. Discover what keeps your body ticking and how to keep it healthy. You’ll see your body in a whole new way.

Introduction to Lego Robotics, July 22-26, Ages 8-11
Using basic principles of engineering and computer programming, campers will design, build, and program a robot to perform different tasks. The last day of camp includes an epic sumo wrestling battle. Note: Campers do not get to keep the robot.
