WINONA LAKE – Local standout Cedric Brenneman has decided to continue his soccer career at Grace College.
Brenneman is an All-State honoree from Bethany Christian. The talented player amassed 67 goals and 14 assists in his career, including a breakout season as a senior.
Brenneman racked up 41 goals and four assists for 86 points in 2018, setting the school record for most goals and points in a season.
As a result, he was named ISCA First Team All-State and First Team All-District. He was the unanimous Player of the Year for the Northern Indiana Soccer Conference (NISC) and competed in the ISCA All-District showcase.
“Cedric is a special player. I believe he is one of the top local guys to come through this area of Northern Indiana in awhile. He is even-keeled, strategic and disciplined. But he will also take risks on the field, and he can back up those risks with a dynamic skill set,” said Grace head coach Matt Hotchkin. “He is going to thrive here at Grace, and I am excited to coach him. He is a well-rounded guy with a great family. I am excited to see Cedric come to Grace College.”
Brenneman helped Bethany Christian to back-to-back sectional championships in 2017 and 2018 as well as a NISC title as a senior, the school’s first since 2011.
The Lancers finished a strong season under Hotchkin, reaching the NCCAA national semifinals. Grace also appeared in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for much of the season. Grace’s 15-4-4 record marked the most wins in a season since 1983.
