This Year, Use All The Library’s Resources

Book suggestions abound at the Syracuse Library. The book club shelf has suggested books that have been vetted by members. New this year is Book Page, a monthly new book review. Pick one up for free reading suggestions. Children, teens and adults can browse new items in a convenient location.

People that hold a Syracuse Turkey Creek library card can check out a mobile hotspot for internet access. The card number also gives access to travel databases, Overdrive eBooks and audio books and Hoopla service that streams movies, music and online books. Many other services are available without a card, both through the website and in the building.

Be Social And Learn

Children’s programming will be back in full swing in March, but adult wintertime activities are up and going. A sample of things to do at the Syracuse Library can be found in the Jan. 14 -19 week’s activities. At 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, the library will host the weekly Mahjong for beginners play time. Turkey Creek Readers, a fun fiction book club, will meet at 4:30 p.m. to discuss “Meet Me At The Cupcake Café.”

Chair yoga meets three times a week, with the 10:15 a.m. Tuesday session geared for an easy workout. The 9:30 a.m. Thursday session is a more advanced program and the other weekly chair yoga program meets at 10:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. restorative chair yoga focuses on breathing and holding relaxing poses, and meets at the Community Center.

WorkOne brings its professional services as a convenience from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. No appointment is necessary.

Thursday evening finds the teen anime club looking at movies and discussing characters at 5 p.m. Anyone younger than 14 needs parental permission. String Theory meets in the lounging chairs to talk while individuals work on knitting, crocheting or other fiber arts projects. The weekly meetings are scheduled through March.

Why spend the dreary, short days of winter cooped up? Winter is a good time to meet people in the community.
