Fire Damages Duplex Near Wawasee High School

Firefighters from Turkey Creek, Benton Township and North Webster responded to a duplex fire in Syracuse on Thursday, Jan. 10.

SYRACUSE — Shortly after 11:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 10, firefighters from Turkey Creek Fire Territory were called to a duplex across the street from Wawasee High School. The units, located at 302-304 S. Syracuse-Webster Road, both appeared heavily harmed by flames and smoke, although the northern half looked to take the brunt of the damage.

Manpower and equipment from both North Webster and Benton Township in Elkhart County also were called to the scene to provide assistance, as well a Turkey Creek Township EMS. Lutheran EMS was later called to evaluate an individual, at the location. NIPSCO and the American Red Cross also were summoned to the scene to provide assistance.

Damage estimates are unclear at this time.
