Mentone Man Arrested For Theft From Four Vehicles, Garage

KOSCIUSKO — A Mentone man is facing multiple felonies after police say he stole items from four different vehicles and a garage over the span of three days.

Aaron J. Guyberson, 31, 305 N. Tucker St., Mentone, is being charged with burglary, a level 5 felony; four counts of theft, level 6 felonies; theft of a firearm, a level 6 felony; and possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony.

On Dec. 15, an officer with the Mentone Police Department responded to a theft from a vehicle call. A male victim advised that unknown subjects had entered into his vehicle and stole a wallet that contained a credit card and $400 in cash. The credit card had been since used at Wilby’s in Mentone for $67.17 and at Walmart in Warsaw for $518.42.

Later on Dec. 15, the officer received another theft from a vehicle call. This victim reported that a subject had entered into her vehicle and stole her laptop computer, valued at $300.

The officer received one more theft from a vehicle call on Dec. 15, This victim advised that unknown subjects entered into his vehicle and stole an Apple watch and a handgun, both valued for $900.

On Dec. 17, officers with the Mentone Police Department responded to a burglary call. The victim advised that unknown subjects entered her detached garage and stole a weedeater, a leaf blower and a generator, all valued at $750. The officers observed that the door jamb was broken and had been forced open.

Later on Dec. 17, a fifth victim advised that unknown subjects had entered into his vehicle. The subjects took two pairs of sunglasses and coins, valued at $20.50.

The officer went to Wilby’s in Mentone and obtained surveillance video of a male subject using the first victim’s credit card. The subject was a white male with facial hair who was a passenger of a Chrysler 200 driven by a female.

On Dec. 19, the third victim advised that his Apple watch had been turned on and gave its location. Officers went to that location and found a male subject that matched the suspect using the first victim’s credit card and identified him as Guyberson. Officers also observed a silver Chrysler 200 parked at the residence.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, officers obtained consent to search the residence. On the sofa in the living room, officers found the third victim’s Apple watch.

Officers spoke to Guyberson who admitted to entering into several vehicles and stealing the Apple watch, the handgun, the laptop and the wallet containing the credit card. Guyberson further admitted entering a garage and stealing a weedeater and leaf blower. Guyberson advised that he used the credit card to purchase food, alcohol, a television and some clothes.

The officers arrested Guyberson and searched his person. They discovered a plastic bag that contained 7.2 grams of methamphetamine on his person.

Guyberson was previously convicted of conversion in 2015 and 2017.
