LAPORTE – Gymnastics season officially kicked off Saturday with the launch of the 2018 LaPorte Pairs.

Wawasee jumped into the fray with two teams in the duo-scored contest.

The pairing of Alyssa Minnix and Aundreya Wegener placed seventh overall and Talia Kuhl and Jada Parzygnot were ninth in the 17-team field.

The best scores from the Wawasee teams had Kuhl and Parzygnot take third on bars with a score of 8.95 and fifth on floor with a 9.25 while Minnix and Wegener were fourth on beam with an 8.85.

“The girls did a great job for the first meet of the season,” stated Wawasee head coach Nika Prather. “It was a first high school career meet for freshman Talia Kuhl and she did very well. For the most part, they all hit their routines and received good scores.”

Washington Township’s Callie Feldsein and Ashley Kennedy win the all-around with a combined score of 37 as the top duo in the meet.

Wawasee competes again Dec. 29 at the Blazer Invite hosted by Elkhart Central.
