Hoosiers Paying More For Gasoline
According to WTHR Channel 13 in Indianapolis, the average price of gas has been on the rise every day for the past month, and Hoosiers are paying among the highest gas prices in the United States.
On average, here in Indiana we are paying $11 more per tank than a month ago when the average price per gallon was $3.29 for regular unleaded. Today’s average price is up to $3.74 nationally. In Indiana, though, it’s 10 cents higher at $3.84 per gallon. Some Warsaw gas stations even have regular unleaded for $3.89 per gallon today.
There are a few reasons for the hike, says the WTHR report. Typically, gas prices rise in the late winter season when oil companies switch to a more expensive summer blend. But, according to AAA Hoosier Motor Club, a snow storm on the east coast last month directly impacted fuel prices in Indiana.
Demand has also slowly increased, but experts say gas prices should level off in the next two to three weeks, and even drop back to what they were a few weeks ago.
In the meantime, to stretch your fuel dollar, experts advise drivers to slow down to increase mileage, and keep tires properly inflated.
Aggressive shopping can yield the lowest prices, according to WTHR. Fill up before mid-week, when prices generally climb.
