Grant Monahan, president of the Indiana Retail Council, issued a press statement saying, “We are very disappointed that chairman Davis has apparently refused to listen to Hoosiers who want greater shopping convenience, expanded buying choices and more competitive pricing.”
House Won’t Vote On Sunday Alcohol Sales
A legislative committee hearing in Indianapolis Wednesday ended with the unlikelihood that the Hoosier state will legalize Sunday retail alcohol sales, at least this year.
House Public Policy Committee Chairman Bill Davis (R-Portland) announced he will not call for a vote on the bill that would lift the ban of retailers selling beer, wine and liquor on Sundays. That means Indiana will remain the only state with such a ban.
Owners of bars and restaurants that serve alcohol are not in favor of lifting the ban. Indiana does allow the Sunday sale of alcohol in bars and restaurants with liquor licenses, and also at concerts and sporting events.
