William ‘Bill’ D. Heltzel, 82, of Bremen, Ind., passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Hospice House of Elkhart, Ind.

Bill was born on July 21, 1930, to William and Mary (Patterson) Heltzel in Bremen. In 1964, he married Nina Marie Weldy; she proceeded him in death.

Bill retired from Bremen Castings after 30 years. Later, he worked for Ace hardware and become known as the “Ace Greeter.” Bill served his country in the Korean War and was a member of the Bremen VFW and American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wood working and fixing things. Bill is remembered as a very caring man that would do anything for a friend.

Bill is survived by two sons: Bryan (Angie) Heltzel, Milford, Ind.; Joe (Lori) Manning, Bourbon, Ind.; two daughters: Penny (Baziel) Vrient, Elkhart, Ind.; Kim (Terry) Lamb, Plymouth, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister: Goldie (Iedia) Weldy.

Visitation will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice.
