NORTHWOOD 71, FAIRFIELD 0

An explosive first quarter was all NorthWood needed to run past its neighbors to the east.

Bronson Yoder scored on runs of 20 and 80 yards and returned a punt 40 yards for another score all in the first quarter as NorthWood grabbed a whopping 37-0 lead. Yoder also completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Miller and Miller broke off a 56-yard scoring run in the quarter.

Nate Newcomer added scoring runs of 32 and 12 yards in the first half as Wood took a 58-0 lead into the lockerroom. Ben Mestach, Cooper Wiens and Alex Walker also had touchdown runs for the Panthers.

NorthWood would stack up 378 yards on the ground for the night, Yoder leading the team with 114 on just four carries. On the other side of the ball, NorthWood held Fairfield to minus-three yards rushing and 108 total yards on the night. Zach Miller and Nic Bontrager led the NorthWood defense with five tackles apiece.

NorthWood (2-0) will head into Northern Lakes Conference play next week in its home opener against Concord. Fairfield (0-2) will visit Central Noble in Northeast Corner Conference action.

LAVILLE 19, TRITON 0

A revenge-minded Triton team came away with a disappointing, 19-0 loss to rival LaVille Friday night.

The usually dynamic Trojans put up an uncharacteristic 93 total offensive yards, including just 29 rushing yards compared to LaVille’s 267 as they fell short of avenging last season’s sectional championship loss to the Lancers.

Andrew Dill racked up 133 yards in 14 carries, Kolby Watts recorded 52 yards rushing, and Robby Pope notched 49 yards for the Lancers (1-1, 1-0 HNAC), who bounced back from a loss to Culver Military in Week 1.

Bo Snyder went 7-for-25 passing with 64 yards for Triton. Tye Orsund hauled in four catches for 44 yards and rushed for 17 yards. He also led the Trojans defensively with eight tackles, two assists and a sack.

Triton (1-1, 0-1 HNAC) will look to bounce back at Caston next week.
