NORTH WEBSTER — Looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity? Consider joining Friends of the North Webster Community Public Library. This volunteer support organization supports the work of the library by raising funds and helping with library programs and events including the annual Cemetery Walk. The group is also a major sponsor of the Youth Summer Reading Program.

Friends of the Library is hosting a special brunch for prospective members 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. Adults interested in joining are invited to come and meet the members, learn about the organization, enjoy a light brunch and sit in on their monthly meeting. Cost of membership is $12 a year for an individual. Spouses can share a dual membership for $16. Membership information is also available at the library’s circulation desk or online at nweb.lib.in.us.

Can you imagine what the perfect library would be? Put your thoughts down on paper and bring them to Writer’s Corner at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20. Composed of people who enjoy writing, this group will be sharing the essays of their ideas of the perfect library.

Later that day, Summer Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. to discuss All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Copies of September’s selection, The Pecan Man by Cassie Dandridge Selleck, will also be available. It’s a historical confessional novel that recalls a child rape, murder and cover-up in a small southern town. Pick up a copy at the circulation desk and join September’s discussion Sept. 17.

Let’s Move, a dancing fitness class meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday. It’s free and open to adults of all fitness levels.

The library continually updates its collection with new titles every week. Browse through the bookcase of new arrivals located near the circulation desk to find a variety of new fiction and non-fiction books.
