
NORTHWOOD 3, LAKELAND 0
After a tough night earlier in the week against Penn, NorthWood volleyball got back on track with a win over Lakeland.
Wins of 25-16 and 25-18 for the Panthers were much smoother than a well-fought game three, which went extras with the Panthers capping the night with a 29-27 finale frame.
Maddy Payne and Kate Rulli were both huge at the net for the Panthers, Payne leading the bunch with 14 kills and Rulli not far behind at 10. Lakeland made NorthWood’s back line work hard, with Whitney Gessinger digging 15 attempts and the combo of Caroline Mullet and Kennedy Hochstetler each digging six tries. Mullet had 31 assists and three aces and Gracie Clark added three aces.
The JV contest went to NorthWood 25-12, 25-19 over the Lakers.
Annika Bennett was strong for the Panthers with 17 assists and four aces. Ashlyn Feller posted five kills and three aces, Ella Gongwer had seven kills and Halle DeMien and Bre Wise combined for 13 digs.
NorthWood (2-1) will compete Saturday in the Tom Heck Tourney.
WEST NOBLE 3, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 0
In a showdown of sectional rivals, West Noble handled Valley at its place.
West Noble won a seesaw first game 25-21 then eeked out a 25-23 second frame. The Chargers closed out the match at 25-15 in the third frame.
West Noble also won the JV matchup 25-11, 25-18. Stats for both matchups were not immediately provided.
Valley (1-2) will host Winamac Tuesday night.
OREGON-DAVIS 3, TRITON 0
Triton’s struggles in the early going continued Thursday night at O-D, where the Bobcats won in straight sets 25-20, 25-16, 25-19.
The Viers sisters paced Triton, Abbey with eight kills and Alyxa with three aces. Emma Hepler and Dylanie Miller combined for 17 assists and Molly McFarland had 10 digs.
The Trojan JV defeated O-D 25-12, 25-20.
Triton (0-3) hosts Rochester on Monday.
WARSAW 3, HUNTINGTON NORTH 0
Warsaw earned its first win of the season Thursday with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-23 win against Huntington North.
Plenty had a hand in the Warsaw victory, starting with four kills and two blocks from Kacy Bragg and nine digs and 17 assists from Kylie Smith. Betty Barnett had four kills and four aces, Kennedy Lauck had four kills, Katie Swanson had four aces and Erin Peugh dug eight attempts.
Warsaw (1-1) will take part in the Kokomo Invite this Saturday.
LCA MIDDLE SCHOOL 2, WHITKO 0
The farm system at the Lakeland Christian Academy defeated Whitko 25-15, 25-24 in middle school action.
Maddie Silveus led her team with four kills and three aces. Amaya Hoyt also had a good game with five assists and four aces.
