KOSCIUSKO — A local man was recently arrested after he strangled a female to the point that she lost consciousness. There was a no-contact order in place between the man and the victim.

Austen Everett Alan Lyke

Austen Everett Alan Lyke, 23, with addresses of Claypool and Warsaw, is being charged with domestic battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child present, a level 6 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; stalking, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; and invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor.

On July 22, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a domestic battery complaint. The female victim advised that Lyke came to her residence even though there is a no-contact order in place.

According to the female, Lyke became angry so she went into the bathroom with a child. Lyke followed her into the bathroom and began calling her names. The female stated she began to use her phone to record the conversation and started to call 911 when Lyke took her phone.

The female further advised that Lyke shoved her head against the door. He then placed her in a chokehold until she lost consciousness. The female stated she was in fear for her life and was kicking the door in an attempt to make enough noise for her neighbors to hear here. Lyke then left the residence on foot. The child was present during the entire incident.

The officer observed dents in the door from where the victim had kicked it, redness around the victim’s neck and a scratch on her chin.

Lyke had a pending domestic battery case against the same female victim. A no-contact order was served to Lyke on April 12.

Lyke was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on July 22, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
