KOSCIUSKO — Former Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department First Sergeant Chad Hill has resigned from the South Whitley Police Department as school resource officer.

The resignation was announced yesterday, July 24, and came days after an inappropriate social media post was made about Hill. The post contained a selfie taken by Hill in which he appeared to be nude from the waist down.
Ink Free News spoke with the female who made the Facebook post. “Last week I had a tough conversation with my 6-year-old daughter. I told her if she saw Chad Hill in uniform, do not talk to him. Previously, if she saw an officer she would run up to him with open arms. I told her, if he talks to you, run to mommy or daddy. He is a liar and should not be in a police uniform. This is a devasting conversation to have with your child. I pray for his family, but I’m thankful I can finally have some closure in this matter. I have high hopes for when Kyle Dukes takes over as the new Kosciusko County [sheriff].”
The female continued by stating, “I never told my daughter what he did just that he was a bad person.” She explained that the child’s father lives in South Whitley and they regularly visit the local park and library, both of which are located near the South Whitley Police Department.
The female further stressed that the social media post was not about retaliation. In her words, “he did way worse than just the picture” and it was about “keeping a pervert out of schools.”
Whitko Community School System’s Interim Superintendent Nick Eccles explained that the school resource officer is employed through the South Whitley Police Department and not a school position. Eccles stated that as soon as they found out about the inappropriate post, the corporation requested a new school resource officer.
“The post in question was inappropriate for someone who would be working with kids in a school … for someone who would be counseling kids to make the right decision,” said Eccles. “We want to provide a safe, secure environment for our students and expect our staff to do the same.”
Hill spent 27 years working for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s department. He retired from the department suddenly in July 2017. Hill was hired for the school resource officer position on June 18.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department admitted that there was an ongoing investigation regarding the issue but would not comment any further.
In April, former school resource officer Matthew Gilbert was arrested on a charge of failing to report a rape.
