SYRACUSE — Two Syracuse residents are facing charges after a domestic dispute involving a sickle and a hammer.

Paul David Goldsworthy, 23, and Kristine Faith Streby, 22, both of 9736 N. Hiawatha Lane, Syracuse, were each charged with domestic battery with a child under the age of 16 present, a level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Friday, July 6, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic dispute at 9736 N. Hiawatha Lane in Syracuse. An officer spoke with Streby, who stated that she and her boyfriend, Goldsworthy, were having an argument when Goldsworthy began beating her dog. Streby advised she then took a sickle and struck Goldsworthy on his back approximately three times. 

Information from court documents show that Streby stated she then grabbed the child who was at the scene and locked herself and the child in Goldsworthy’s truck. According to Streby, Goldsworthy took a hammer and broke out the window of the vehicle, causing glass to hit Streby and the child. Streby said Goldsworthy then grabbed her and pulled her out of the vehicle, causing cuts on both of her arms, her left hand and left foot. Streby’s injuries were photographed by an officer. 

Officers spoke with Goldsworthy, who stated that he and Streby were arguing when she hit him on the back with a sickle. He reportedly admitted that he did break out the driver side window of his truck. An officer photographed the injury to Goldsworthy’s back. The entire incident took place in front of the child. 

Goldsworthy and Streby were both booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Friday, July 6, each on a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
