Patrons of the Kosciusko County Community Fair pause for refreshment at the Leesburg Lions Shake Shack. Several organizations will ply their specialties at this year’s fair.

WARSAW — When it comes to fun food, county fairs are venues of extravagance. Most fairgoers are familiar with the traditional eats: cotton candy, fried Twinkies, corn dogs and the like.

The Kosciusko County Community Fair deliberately goes the extra delicious mile.

Outside vendors merely complement the permanent feeding stations and daily specials served throughout the grounds.

Several organizations are offering full menus, including Etna Green and Lake City Lions clubs, Burket United Methodist Church and the local Beef and Pork Producers. Each of the groups has a speciality, according to Jeannette Wood, office manager for the fair.

“Etna Green Lions are known for their really good pies,” she said. “The Lake City Lions have lemon slushies and are sponsoring the hot dog eating contest , at 4 p.m. Friday, July 13.”

The Leesburg Lions serve ice cream and shakes and the Beef and Pork Producers are famous for their ribeye and pork burgers.

The American Legion will serve a full menu out of a trailer and other vendors will serve fried vegetables, lemon shake-ups and hard-dipped ice cream, according to Wood.

Free breakfasts will be offered two days of the fair. Kids will receive a free meal from 8 to 10 a.m. on Kid’s Day, Tuesday, July 10, in the event center.

Seniors will be treated to a free morning meal starting at 8 a.m. on Senior Day, Wednesday, July 11, in the event center.

The antique tractor and village shows will sponsor evening entrees and desserts all week in the antique area of the fairgrounds. The menu includes:
• Ice cream, 5 p.m. Sunday, July 8
• Sweet corn and homemade ice cream, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10
• Chili, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11
• Ham and beans, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12
• Sweet corn, 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 13
