A fire fighter climbs onto the roof of Maple Leaf Farms during a fire call Friday morning, June 29. A minor issue in a utility space caused 90-100 employees to be evacuated while fire fighters investigated the cause.

MILFORD — For the second time in two days fire fighters were called to Maple Leaf Farms, 9179 200 N, Milford, Friday morning, June 29.

Milford Fire responded to a call for a possible ceiling fire at approximately 10 a.m. Assistance was provided by Leesburg-Plain Township Fire and Turkey Creek Fire Departments

Don Ratliff, operations manage for Maple Leaf Farms, said the problem was a minor issue within a utility space located on the north side of the building above the production area.

Approximately 90 to 100 employees were evacuated as a precaution.

Ratliff said Maple Leaf would be able to resume production this morning. “I was in the building and it’s fine,” he said noting there was no smoke or smokey smell.

Ratliff said this morning’s incident was not related to another fire call Milford Fire responded to Thursday evening, June 28.
