Danny J. “Dan” Shafer, 72, Rochester, passed away at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Ashford Place Health Campus, Shelbyville.

He was born March 14, 1946, in Macy, the son of Chester and Evelyn (Neterer) Shafer.
Shafer worked for 47 years as an auto body technician for Wilson’s Body Shop and was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Eagles Lodge. He liked tending to his yard and enjoyed working on old cars in his spare time.
Survivors include his son, William (Samantha) Arthur, New Palestine, six grandchildren: Amber Rose Koebcke, Mitchell Alan Howard, Chelsea Shafer, Peyton Shafer, Savannah Fox, Lylian Shafer and Brook Rogers; great-grandchildren: Asia, Ashton, Christopher, Macee and Lincoln; brothers: Joe (Sadie) Shafer, Akron, Tom Shafer, Macy; sisters: Nancy Dotson, Akron and Liz and husband Duane Flaherty, Denver. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary R. Bedics and his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Burial will be at a later date at Gilead Cemetery, Gilead.
