
Mrs. Stella M. Grube, 85, Rochester, passed away at 5:20 p.m., May 22, 2018, at Woodbridge Health Campus of Logansport.
On May 17, 1933, Stella Mae Patton was born in Carroll County, Ky. She was a cherished daughter of John and Mary Ann McQueen Patton. Growing up she shared her childhood with six brothers and two sisters. In about 1940 the Patton family moved from Kentucky to Wabash.
In Marion on July 3, 1948, she married the love of her life and best friend, Mr. Max A. Grube. They shared 56 years of life’s adventures. From their union came three wonderful sons. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of three more generations.
After nearly 50 years as a beautician, Stella retired her scissors and hair dryers. She was the first president of the Fulton County Hair Dressers Association. She was also a devoted member of the Fulton County the Democratic Party. Stella was a member of the election board for over a half century. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose for many years.
Following retirement Stella Grube spent much of her waking hours in the spirit of volunteerism. A vibrant member of The Cross she volunteered at Matthew’s Market, stuffed Easter eggs for the annual Easter Egg hunt, and loved adding seasonal decorations to the church. A member of the Woodlawn Auxiliary, she volunteered at the oncology department each week for many years. To relax she enjoyed playing cards, especially hand and foot with her nieces Mary Ann and Vickie.
Left to cherish Stella’s memory are three sons: Morgan Grube and friend Betty Prawdzik of Kewanna; Wayne Grube and wife Diann of Rochester; Mark Grube and wife Diana of Tennessee; five grandchildren; John Grube Cloverdale, Tisha Fry and husband Jim, Chad Morgan and wife Joanna, Jason Gube and wife Kelly, all of Rochester; Amy Bond and husband Chad of Tennessee; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; four brothers: Joe Patton and wife Marilyn of Rome City, Noble Patton of Wabash, Ronnie Patton and wife Arlene of St. Charles, Ill.; Butch Kamp and wife Lan Chin of Chicago; two brothers-in-law: Paul Grube and wife Pat of Rochester; Eldon Grube and wife Linda of Kokomo; five sisters-in-law: Louise Grube of North Manchester; Pearl Grube of Kewanna; Sue Grube of Rochester; Betty Dunlap of Fort Myers, Fla.; Dorothy Etchison of Noblesville. Several nieces and nephews and a life time friend Janet “Little Janet” Ward.
Preceding Stella in death are her parents John and Mary Ann Patton, beloved husband Max on July 5, 2004, son Monty, granddaughter Michelle, three sisters Mary John, Betty Lou, Susie and two brothers Charles and Bill.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Stella Mae Grube will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester with Pastors Mike Cloud and Martin Furrow Jr. officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
