Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
4:40 a.m. Thursday, May 17, East US 30, west of South CR 450E, Warsaw. Driver: Linda L. Mahoney, 55, SR 9, Columbia City. Mahoney’s vehicle collided with a deer. Damage up to $2,500.
3:55 a.m. Thursday, May 17, Chapman Lake drive, west of North CR 325E, Warsaw. Driver: Jack E. Miller, 39, Chapman Lake Drive, Warsaw. Miller advised he looked down for a moment while driving, resulting in his vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a NIPSCO utility pole and Century Link phone box. Damage up to $25,000.
10:11 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, South Packerton Road, south of East CR 400S, Warsaw. Driver: Carlos L. Chavarria, 29, Meadowdale Drive, North Manchester. Chavarria advised that a dog ran into the roadway and he was unable to avoid striking the dog with his vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
3:42 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, South SR 25, west of South CR 600W, Burket. Driver: Paige A. Conley, 20, South Scott Road, Claypool. Conley’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $2,500.
7:24 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, East Van Buren Street and North Old Road 15, Leesburg. Driver: Charles A. Cloud, 58, Vee Jay Street, Elkhart. Cloud advised he was crossing the railroad tracks on Van Buren Street when his vehicle trailer bottomed out and got stuck. Cloud advised he got out and immediately called 911. A few minutes later, a southbound train struck the trailer that was across the tracks. The trailer was carrying three pontoon boats and three outboard motors. As the trailer was being dragged, it struck a railroad tie and threw it into the side of a building. A gate mechanism was caught by the trailer and ripped out of the ground on the southwest side of the crossing. Damage over $100,000.
5:04 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, East Old Road 30, south of North CR 450E, Warsaw. Drivers: Ian M. Haas, 27, Elsbury Drive, Indianapolis; and Andrew O. Hohman, 34, South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Haas advised he was stopped at the intersection of Old Road 30. He stated he did not see Hohman’s vehicle and pulled out, resulting in his vehicle striking the rear of Hohman’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
3:56 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, East CR 1300N and North CR 300E, Syracuse. Drivers: Juan M. Patino, 27, North CR 300E, Milford; and Brian J. Crawford, 32, North SR 19, Etna Green. Patino advised that his brakes failed, causing him to run through the northbound stop sign, striking Crawford’s vehicle. Damage up to $25,000.
2:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, SR 19, south of West CR 700S, Warsaw. A vehicle was southbound on SR 19 and left the west side of the roadway for an unknown reason. The driver of the vehicle left the scene. Airbags were deployed. Damage up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accident:
7:42 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, Lake City Highway, Warsaw. A female advised she parked her vehicle in a parking spot at Moe’s Southwest Grill. She was walking toward the building when she heard the sound of a vehicle striking another vehicle. She advised she saw a van turning right from the parking spot next to her vehicle, sideswiping the passenger side corner of her vehicle. The female advised that the other driver slowed down and looked around but then left the parking lot. Damage up to $2,500.
