Sharon A. Pence, 86, rural Churubusco, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.

She was born April 13, 1932 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of the late Bert and Grace (Brenneman) Herrman. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where she attended Forrest Park Elementary School.The family then moved to rural Churubusco, where she graduated from Churubusco High School in 1950.

On Oct. 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Paul E. Pence. They have always made their home in rural Churubusco. Paul died Aug. 8, 2009.

In addition to being a full-time homemaker raising their six children, she helped on the farm and for three years she worked at General Electric, Fort Wayne. After raising her children, she made area deliveries of the Peddler’s Post for ten years.

Always with an eye for a bargain, she loved looking for and buying antiques. She has an extensive collection that she kept catalogued.

She is survived by her six children: Scott A.(Etta) Pence, Columbia City; Larry E. Pence, Churubusco; Paul M. Pence, Orland; Carol E. Hively, Churubusco; Don A. Pence, Churubusco; and Jennifer J. (Shane) Buchmiller, North Muskegon, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Bonnie Groves and Jean Pence; and a brother: Byard Herrman.

At her request, there will be no services.
