WARSAW — Progress has been slow for Norfolk Southern in unloading the new rail along the line. They were able to complete their rail work through the Dogwood Drive crossing on the south side of Warsaw last night, May 10.

Tom Lyons, track supervisor, advised that, “On Monday, we plan to continue unloading rail through Warsaw. Starting around 9 a.m., we plan to remove the asphalt from the trenches at Ranch Road, Pope Street, Winona Avenue and Fort Wayne Street. We will work south to north and will be filling in these trenches with stone as we move through town. This will accelerate the process when the rail train comes later that evening. We ask for the community’s patience while we do this. Intermittent closures of 15-30 minutes should be expected. We will have multiple machines at each crossing to perform this work and will be able to get emergency vehicles across if needed.”

Their plan is to have all of the rail laid up to and through the Fort Wayne Street crossing by the evening on Monday, May 14, but this is contingent on train traffic and other possible delays. Once these crossings are complete, Norfolk Southern will move to Hickory Street to continue this trenching and unloading process.
