Goshen Unified Invite: Athletes Bearing Down On Tourney

GOSHEN – With just a couple weeks to go before the Bremen Sectional, athletes from area unified track teams came together Friday evening for the Goshen Invitational.

Elkhart Memorial came out on top of the eight-team field with 111 points, Elkhart Central second at 88 and Wawasee at 85 for third. Warsaw placed sixth at 78 points in a tightly-packed field that had second through eighth separated by 19 points.

Memorial had four of the top finishes from the meet, with Josh Rehmels winning the 100-meter dash at 12.24, Roberto Mota winning the 400-meter dash at 59.69, Logan Mullins winning the long jump at 18-9 and the boys 4×100 relay team taking honors at 52.91.

The Chargers also had runner-up finishes from Mota in the long jump at 16-9, Tyler Lehner in the 100 at 12.59, Preston Elonich in shot put at 43-0.5, and the girls 4×100 relay coming in at 1:02.16.

Wawasee had a pair of winners in Derek Smith, who sent the shot put a very impressive 45-9 and the girls 4×100 relay team crossed the finish line at 1:01.63.

East Noble had a pair of runner-up finishes in Jack Gibson going 1:00.44 in the 400 and the boys relay team racing to a 55.31 time.

Notables for Wawasee included Rhian Galloway sailing 10-5 in long jump and Noah Wilson sending his best shot put 32-9.

Notables for Warsaw included Thomas Boyer running 14.58 in the 100, Josh Bradford sailing 14-3.5 in long jump and Keegan Rice going 34-6 in shot put.

Both Warsaw and Wawasee will compete in Thursday’s Warsaw Invite. The Bremen Sectional will take place Saturday. May 19.
