WINONA LAKE — Several hundred people converged on Winona Lake’s Heritage Room to observe an event held in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, now in its 67th year.
The Pray For America event was held at noon on Thursday, May 3.
Emcee Ken Locke introduced keynote speaker Dr. William Katip who spoke about religious diversity and the need for unity, which was this year’s theme.
“Our religious traditions differ from each other,” he said. “We each have distinctive ways in which we worship. Our theme for this day of prayer is unity.”
Katip pointed out to the audience the prevalence of disconnection and loneliness in society today and offered hope.
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace,” he said.
Prayers were also given by Warsaw Mayor Dr. Joseph Thallemer, Pastor Tim Sprankle, Rev. Richard Maron, Pastor Stoney Craft, Darla France, Depuy Jim Lesko, Dr. Rachael Hoffert and U.S. Rep. Jim Banks.
Music was provided by the Grace College Gospel Choir and by Richard Dick, who played the piano.
The choir also led the audience in singing the national anthem and God Bless America.
